Recently I purchased a pair of Montezuma Swordtails at a fish club auction. On the typed label it says Montezuma Swordtail. Is this a Montezuma Swordtail or is it a "Green Swordtail" in the Montezuma Swordtail Group. I can't find anyone that sells Montezuma Swordtails, they all seem to sell green Swordtails. I would like to know what I really have.
Thank you for your Help.

Hi
You could google the family Xixopherous(spelling?} Would give you some pix of feral types But sine the entire clade hybridizes so redily difficult to say what they are. lol Sure look like the pix I've seen ,particularly the spots
Good luck trying to find out lol gary

Those are not a montezumae species. Could be helleri, could be guentheri, but 100% not montezumae. True montezumae are fairly readily available on Aquabid.

Green Sword is the common name of a wild appearing Xiphophorus helleri, and guentheri are extremely similar so that's exactly what they are. I would definitely like to see a pic of the male. It could help in determining exact species and locality of origin.

Thanks for everyones help. I contacted Pete from Lotsoffish on Aqua Bid. He was so nice and told me the Swordtails are black Spotted Green Swordtails and they are a color variety of Xiphophorus Hellerii
Thanks again.

Hi
A site I've found useful for I.D particularly for genera with lots of species is the Interational Taxonomic Info. system
Xiphophorus has undergone a lot of revivision(Finally!!) lol There are still 28 valid species. They provide pix of wild caught
examples but still does not deal with hybrids . though!!! gary
