Hey all,
I've been messing with the lighting in one of my tanks and thought the "moon light" phase was neat enough to share. I am trying to work out gradual intensity increasing and decreasing system on a budget. Not much use however I am having fun changing the look of the tank with light.

That looks cool Anton,

Keep us posted on your progress and what K bulbs, timer settings, etc. you're using. I was thinking of adding a small red PC lamp on a timer to compliment my PC/NO dusk/dawn setup that I have now for a similar effect(and basically some nightime viewing).

All the bulbs I use come from lowes and I do not remember the specs on them so I will have to wait till I am back there. I am creating the timing circuit board myself as I do not have money (spent it all on gifts) to buy commercial systems. Although my failed attempts are adding up:). I will post schematics of the final board.

I already use x-10 systems for my lighting sontrol in my house. I have the power strip with lighting on each tank on an x-10 controller, total cost is about $20 per controller, some for the PC interface. With it I can set timers to turn lights on and off for me.

Whereas I use the On or Off "appliance" modules for my compact flourescents they also make dimmable "lamp" modules which could simulate lights getting brighter and dimmer as the day progresses.

For moonlight, wouldnt you use a Blue light? to see the fish, wouldnt you use a red light at night?

Why setup a light for moonlight? for your viewing pleasure or is it good for the fish? When I turn off the lights its pitch black in the tank..

The light pictured above is a blue light... I am going to install another light(s) more for night viewing. Currently I am trying to make sure that I what I pick is truely invisible to the fish.

It doesnt look like blue light??? In eithor case, blue light is visible as day to fish. Try a red light. Many fish cannot see the red spectrum. Hence, when you go to aquarium musuems, there are red lights in there tanks..
