I have seen some cool pictures and reado some articles about LED lights that replicate the moon light. I think this is a cool idea.. I was curious if anyone know if these lights have any effect on the plants? as they are a heavy blue.. I would expect too much, but interested to hear some insight from you people using them.

I have had moonlights in my aquarium for two years now. I run the 24 hours a day (since I just have plugged into the wall and not on a timer) and have had zero problems with my plants. I suggest you get moonlights that have a dimmer because the LEDs can be a little bright.
The moonlights are mostly for you and to help you see your fish at night. They don't provide any other benefits.

I added DIY cold cathode lights to my planted tank for extended viewing of the fish but was delighted to also see the night time "poses" of the plants too. It was fun to see plants close up for the night. I don't believe the moonlight affects the growth of plants though, some say it helps replicate the natural cycle but I haven't noticed that and little about our aquariums is actually natural anyways.

well I just ordered the cathode kit. I will be doubling my tank size in the next week and this is perfect for that misson. stoked to get started!! thanks for the replies guys.

You can get moon lights in white as well as blue. I like the white ones a little bit better. Things just look a bit dim. The blue ones make things look weird, but they are OK too.
