Mopani wood

Purigen will remove tannins from the water. I tried carbon, and didn't see any difference, though that may have been because the wood was still putting out more.

man i tell ya, i was real worried about tannins when i put driftwood in my tank, but i noticed that a lil bit actually seems to enhance the way the tank looks!! like those fancy sunglasses you see on tv

great these are all great suggestions. I think im going to take in consideration not to poly the wood since that might create a problem when attaching the plants.

Now that ive got the mopani wood in my tank, it is developing a film around the wood. It is like a white'ish clear layer all over the piece. What exactly is this and is it good for the tank? Will this go away?

Sounds like fungus. It is harmless and will go away on its own.

If the piece is small enough, you can boil it for a few minutes.

YEAP I boiled mine for about 3 hours. Then I let it set in a cooler outside filled with water for a week. NO PROBLEMS
