I am trying to find out if a 70 gallon tank is an adequite size for a 3ft. Moray eel or if i need to go bigger, any and all advise would be very helpful

well... In my opinion you may want a LOT bigger than a 70 Gal for one of those bad boys!! Just remember they get bigger than 3 ft. In most cases up to 10 Ft and over 80 lbs depending on what species or Moray your talking about.

I don't know a lot about saltwater fish but I know that a 70 gallon is not too much longer than four feet. A three foot fish that can get even bigger would, IMO, need a much much larger tank. I'm thinking in terms of hundred(s) of gallons.

There are species of Moray that don't even reach 3' such as G. miliaris. Just because an animal is big doesn't mean it needs alot of room. If there was a food delivery service on the reef most Morays would never leave their dens. They do however need a sufficient volume of water to allow you to maintain safe, stable water parameters. It's not impossible or even cruel imo to keep a 3' Snowflake in a 70 but it certainly won't be a low maintenance set-up.

Although kept tesselata eel/others in either 90 or 120G Reef Tank which grew to ~ 30", more or less, eventually had to move (large fish started to disappear) to much much much larger tank. I wouldnt keep such eels or bigger such as green morays, etc, etc, in 70G. Even though they may not move around much in natural biotope but their area of movements/turf in the ocean is lot more than what we can provide such as 70G as they will move around quiet a bit in captivity unless tank is well or should I say "appropriately aquascaped" in large aquarium as in Public Aquarium.

Pics would be nice!
