This just isn't my week. I know moboe just had a thread going on algae, but I've got a whole raft of things going on with this one tank. Here's the scoop:
10 gallon, cycled last May, contains 1 betta, 2 tetras, 1 oto, 3 shrimp, 2 plants. The betta is a new addition last week, along with the second plant and the oto.
The betta had a fin rot condition which had mostly cleared up before being put into the 10 gallon, but it looks like I should have waited until it completely cleared up. so I'm treating with maracyn-2. That's the first thing.
Last night I noticed ick on the betta, tetras, and otos, so I'm using daveedka's ich treatment... increasing the salt to 1.5 tsp per gallon, just started that this morning.
But now that I'm really taking notice of the tank, I see that I've got beard algae starting on all the sides of the tank, at least, I think that's what it is. It's still pretty short, but kind of waves in the current, and covers the whole glass. Before, it wasn't this kind of algae.. this is new as of today. I just cleaned the tank on Thursday, including algae scrub and 70% water change.
Lights are on a timer - 11 hours a day. Weekly water changes, so I don't think water quality is the issue. I'm hesitant to introduce anything new to the tank until I've got rid of the ick and fin rot. I'm at a loss. What's the impact of just leaving the algae alone until everything else is resolved? Certainly there won't be a lack of food for my little algae eaters!
I love this hobby... but not when everything is going wrong at once!
Help?
