I replaced my dead cory with another one. This one I got was tiny (about 1/2 inch in length), probably no more than a few weeks old. Not too long after it was introduced into the tank my betta nipped its tail and since then it didn't eat much and was constantly harrassed by the betta. The cory looked like it was in a bad shape, so I removed the betta and tried to feed the cory. The pellet I placed next to it ended up getting eaten by the neons and the cory didn't show any interest with the food.

Then the worst part was while it was swimming around, it just dropped dead. I fished it out and took a look at it and noticed that his head was big while his tail area was thin like a piece of paper. It look like it died of starvation, but I do know that the cory had something to eat when I got it a few days ago.

This is what the cory looked like just before it died.

This is my oldest cory, which is healthy looking.

The tail sections varies greatly. I place food right next to them and watch them eat and yet the baby cory died as if it didn't have anything to eat.

I'm quite frustrated right now with corys dying. I love these cory cats and two of them died on me within a week time. Both died as if they didn't get enough to eat. While my other cory is nice and big (even the betta won't harrass).

I'm sorry about your cories:(

It might sound like a bad batch of cories - it could be internal parasites or some sort of disease (kind of like tuberculosis).

The same situation is happening/happened to some neons that I have in quaratine. They were healthy for the longest time, then *bam* three died from the same thing you described. I haven't figured it out yet.

Also, what size tank do you have? Cories really like to be in schools of 3 at the absolute minimum. Once you figure out what may have happened, and if you have the space, i'd get a couple more.

You may want to treat for internal parasites to be sure - the medications isn't very irritating imo.

What are your water parameters? like nitrates and pH and temp?
