Well, I'm a bit closer to knowing how I'm going to plumb the tank. I'm going to get 1/2" PVC, 1/2" ball valves, and 1/2" slip fittings. I had a guy visit my house and give me a few directions when I first got the tank, and something leaves me a bit puzzled: He told me to get 1 inch bulkheads. All the other parts are 1/2", so should the bulkheads also be 1/2 inch?

what size tank and sump do you have? have to admit, half inch piping does sound a little small...But, it all depends on what equpment you have...Let us know the tank setup details and we can take it from there..

i would stick with 3/4 to 1" plumbing (go with 1" if that is what your bulkheads are going to be; it will keep things simple). Smaller pipes can put stress on your pump, because it has to push harder and another thing i discoverd is that they make less noise when the water moves through them. Also, another important consideration is the size of the intake and discharge hook-ups on your pump. You'll have to use something that fits, of course.

The pipes and joints the aquarium came with are all 1/2". However, they're all glued together and sawed off at the ends, which means they must be replaced. The aquarium is 125 gallons, and I'm not really sure what the sump would be called. It's a large, closed-in box that has different chambers and leads out to the protein skimmer from its side. Right now, I'm mostly concerned whether or not a 1" bulkhead would fit with all this. Needless to say, I'm completely new to all this.
