More problems - Help please!! Urgent!!

My bracing is the same size as the tank's panels. They are 3" wide. However, all four of them, have a piece that is 1/8" thinner attached to the bottom of them and extends an inch beyond them that supports the lids in each of the three top openings. The only difference is how much surface area at the ends you have. I say get the local readily available 1/4" stuff at the lower cost.

So 4" wide 1/4" thick should be sufficient additional bracing? Mostly I'm doing this for my own piece of mind. I think probably what came with the tank originally is meant to take care of all the structural needs, but what I'm guessing happened (because of all the silicone) is that the original bracing came off at one point and rather than fix it appropriately, the prior owner just globbed a bunch of silicone on to try to hold it in place. Apparently that isn't a long-term solution. Anyhow, once I get it all cleaned up and re-attached, I'll see how exactly it's attached and if it is in fact bracing or if it actually did sit on the top of the glass like it sort of appears at this point. That will probably be sometime next week. I guess once I find that out, then I'll make a final decision on the additional bracing that I want to add.

next question is - how do I measure so I get an exact fit with the incoming glass? I've never done this before and I'm not confident that I can do it now. If it is too snug, I'm guessing I won't be able to get it in and siliconed? Also, do I just silicone the edge of the brace to the glass, or do I silicone it top and bottom of the brace if that makes any sense... is there a video how-to for this somewhere??

I'll try to get up pics of mine...hard to see most of it since there is the tank's top frame in the way and covering up the ends of the bracing as viewed from the front or the back. Try to get good shots of yours as you take it apart and as you clean it up. I too would assume the previous owner just globbed on some stuff to band aid it. I would imagine they are cut maybe a 1/16" shorter than the span so some silicone would be in the two gaps. Will have to review your other thread for the pics you already have up. I am sure my tank is different than yours...it also has bracing that runs along the length of the tank, front and back, with the width bracing attached to it.

So yours is true euro bracing around the whole thing. This will just be center bracing basically but along the sides of the tank as well as the piece in the middle. And yes I will take pictures once I get to cleaning it up and taking it apart to be re-attached. Family is leaving town Monday to head home, so I'll probably start working on it after that. Fish should be OK in the rubbermaid tub temporarily. It's filtered and heated. Less water than they are used to, but there aren't a lot of fish and not a lot of waste since I'm only feeding sparingly at this point too.
