fighting and bickering. New 38 gallon tank coming any suggestions on eventually moving fish. I am considering moving the male to the 55 gallon tank and the female to the 38 gallon and leaving the fry until they are older. Any ideas?
I say let them fight and eat the fry. Eventually they will get it right.
I have heard of egg yolk formula or feeding rotifers. This should be done only if you remove the eggs from the parents. The fry will not adapt well after eating from the parents. I hear you get a much better survival rate if done well but a reduced growth rate.
Parents ate some but what's left today Wednesday are swimming on their own. Go back to parents every great once in awhile. What now? Baby brine shrimp? When should I separate them?
Separate them from the parents about 10 days after they all have been free swimming. Keep feeding brine shrimps. Get them on blood worms and then onto beef heart asap to grow big fish. Keep the water CLEAN CLEAN till they are about 5"
How many times should I feed the fry in a day? I took the male out things are better: I am changing the water once a day. When should I put them on Blood worms. Squirting the brine in the general area of the fry and parent a good idea? When should I separate the remaining parent? Thanks for the info. I heard something about RO: what do you think?
You don`t need Ro for these fry.Only if you want to try increase the hatch rate and help eggs from going fungai on future spawns.
You can feed brine every 3-4 hours if you can.Baby brine shirmp can live up 6-8 hours.Look closley to see them swimming around.Hatching works far better using Ro or distilled.Even if their not totally hatched just broke out of the shell the fry will still eat them.
Frozen bloodworms? When they start hunting for food on the bottom around two weeks old try finely shaving up frozen bloodworms with a knife.Could also add crushed flakes.Beefheart recipes are a good option.Freeze them then shave some off with a metal cheeze grater.
You're doing a good job!!! I think I've read that if you are using RO for the breeding & spawning, you've got to switch the fry over to tap, slowly. You should go over to the discus forum for your answers on fry rearing. Wish I could help more, but I'm out of the house 11 hours/day....can't raise discus fry on that schedule!
