More Questions....Pls Be Gentle

Here's my two cents.

The majority of pleco attacks I've read were examples of underfed plecostmus and sluggish, possibly sick goldfish. Bottom-sitting fish and hungry plecos is always a disaster waiting to happen. If you would like a pleco, remember that different species have different dietary needs. Some plecos are strictly vegetarian and don't need animal proteins! So you can always choose a pleco that likes veggies. Additionally, if you have healthy goldfish, they shouldn't just sit around and let a pleco suck on their sides! Even when sleeping, goldfish don't lay on the bottom. So if you're feeding your pleco the correct food and you have healthy goldfish, it could work.

Also, tosakin are definitely bad tankmates for singletail goldfish. They are very delicate and poor swimmers. But ryukin, wakin, watonai, shubunkin, all are good singletail tankmates. :)

From what I can tell, this hobby is about 80% trial and error figuring out what works in your tank and what doesn't. And 20% doing things according to chemical, water, and aquatic principles.

I suppose I'll just give it a shot and learn from my experience.

From personal experience, I'd say you have that almost exactly backwards. It's about 75% follow the rules, 25% what works in your tank. For example, I've found that just as we say here on the forum, it's best to overfilter and understock your tank unless you want to risk the health of your fish or your own health, doing all those water changes! However, as the exception to the rule, my singletail fish get along just fine with my oranda, and the general rule is not to mix fancies and ST goldfish. But it works in my tank.
