What are the pros and cons of me feeding my angelfish some of the mosquito larvae that I have in an outdoor pond? (before I flush them out of the pond).

Would the angelfish eat all the larvae that I put in with them? I don't want to risk any maturing into mosquito while in the house. How should I catch them? any precautions? do the pros outweigh the cons?

Thanks.

Mosquito larva are taken enthusiastically by all fish. The downside is if they cannot get all those larva, the survivors can eventually evolve to adult stage and you don't want mosquitoes flying around your house. What other fish do you have? Bottom dwellers can readily comb the bottom for those larva. Surface dwellers won't give the larva much opportunity to hide around corners either.

At the moment the only fish I have are the 3 angels, I am looking at getting some bottom feeders (did have 4 in QT, but they died over the past few days), but for now the only fish I have are the angels.

If you were culturing them yourself, I'd say try feeding them some. I wouldn't take anything out of a pond and put it in my aquarium water. Mosquito larvae is good food, but like Lupin says......expect some to hatch in the house and bite ya!:grinyes:

Thats my biggest worry, and even though my angels are pigs I can't guarantee them getting all the larvae, and my wife would probably not be too happy if I introduced some mosquitos to the family!!

I have an old 30 in the yard that has a crack. It still hold water about 1/2 full. It is usualy full of msquito larvae and tadpolls. I often ues a net and scoup up a bunch and put in my aquariums. I have never had any mature in the house. I have never seen them last more than 10 minutes in the tanks. All my fish go nuts for them. Even the tadpolls are wiped out very quickly by my bigger fish.

With 3 adult angels you shouldn't have a problem. Try feeding them a little at a time and watch them eat to make sure there is no left overs.

Last time I put mosquito larvae in my tank with 3 angels, the larvae didn't get a chance to get more than 1" deep in water and they were gone.
