Denver-ish Colorado.
I was poking around on aquabid last night and saw some matterials for making moss walls up for auction. Looking at it, I think I could probably get what I need at the craft store, but what I'm wondering is if it really works out well. Has anyone tried it? Which type of moss did you use and how did you do it? What did you like about them? What didn't you like?

I have have a moss wall currently in my 10G. I've set it up about 1 month ago, and there's not much growth, yet. I have Christmas Moss on it and it's doing pretty well with small piece poking out. I sandwhiched the moss between to screens (plastic) and spread the moss out evenly. Then, I stapled (you can also tie it) the outer parts, and if needed the inner parts. The screening I used wasn't as stiff as I thought it would so I had a hard time growing moss in it. The tighter the moss wall is, the better the moss will grow.

You should try it.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, you can use the stuff from craft stores. That's what most people use. I picked up some from Michael's a while ago but haven't gotten around to actually making the wall. I'm going to use Java moss for mine as that's what I have. But I think pretty much any aquatic moss would work. I've even seen some made with riccia fluitans.

You can do a google for "moss wall" and you should find lots of how-to pages. I think there's even one at this site.

Basically you take 2 pieces of the craft mesh and sandwich the moss between them. Then tie them together and place in your tank. It'll take a few weeks/months to grow out and look nice.

I got some pics of it: http://fishlesscycling.com/forum/index.php?topic=2030.0

But here are pics of the moss wall:
