If the pregnant shrimp is in a tank without other fish, you don't need to quarantine here as shrimp don't cannibalize on each other. If it is in a tank with fish, you can separete them but might as well set up a smaller tank for them as a species.
I've only recently gotten a small number of cherries, but already I've had berried females. I move the berried shrimp to a small plastic tub with some java moss pretty much as soon as I spot eggs on her swimmers. I then float the tub in the tank for a few weeks until she drops the babies. During this time, I exchange out 1/2 to 1/4 of the water daily and once or twice a week, I do a complete water change. So far that seems to work for me. Right now, the shrimp are in a divided tank, and the holes in the tank divider (that allow water flow between partitions) are probably big enough to allow baby shrimp through, which is why I prefer to hatch and grow out the babies in a separate container.
Community tank, not much foliage. I caught her and put he in a Tupperware and floating it. will try and get some java moss tomorrow. here is a pic of my tank.
Try covering the tupperware with clear linoleum wrap and poke some air holes through it. U could buy one of those 2 or 3 way breeder boxes for like $6 at ur LFS, and keep the shrimp in there.
What are you QTing her for?
What are you trying to prevent by doing this?
If you dont wnat then sucked into the filter, just stretch a piece of nylon stocking, pantyhose, etc over the filter intake, and secure it with a rubber band.
I did the pantyhose over the filter for several months and found it a major PitA. Finally did what everybody here suggested which was to get a square or rectangle of sponge, cut a slit down the middle the length of the filter tube slits, and slide it over said filter tube. This has the further advantage of keeping bits of plants, snails etc off the tube and out of your impeller as well as baby shrimp or fish. AquaClear filter foam blocks work exceptionally well for this purpose aside from being rather bright colored, a nuisance if you are trying to keep the mechanical parts invisible. O well, all life is tradeoffs.
