I've also found this to be the easiest solution. The bright white filter media does change to a muted brown after a month or two.I did the pantyhose over the filter for several months and found it a major PitA. Finally did what everybody here suggested which was to get a square or rectangle of sponge, cut a slit down the middle the length of the filter tube slits, and slide it over said filter tube. This has the further advantage of keeping bits of plants, snails etc off the tube and out of your impeller as well as baby shrimp or fish. AquaClear filter foam blocks work exceptionally well for this purpose aside from being rather bright colored, a nuisance if you are trying to keep the mechanical parts invisible. O well, all life is tradeoffs.![]()
