mouldy smell?

hi everyone
I have an aquarium containing swordtails, pleco, clown loaches and coridoras which is lightly planted with crypton.
I feed them with pellets, blood worms and flakes and zuchinni for the pleco.
Recently i smell an odour which is very similar to bread mould from the aquarium. Everything seems ok and all of them are healthy for months. The water is clear and i do some pwc twice a week.
What should i do? The smell is annoying.

all tanks have an earthy smell, least all of mine do, if it's overwelming I would say do a huge water change and run carbon. but if it's only slight I would say it's fairly normal

Ours has a smell, every fish tank I have ever owned has, no matter how many water changes you do.
My husband says it smells like the beach, I just think it smells old and damp.

It's probably because your 20 gallon tank is too small for all those fish. Plecos in general are massive waste producers. I would stay if the smell annoys you, stop sniffing the aquarium.:thud: :laugh: Just kidding. Have you gotten a bigger tank yet though?

check your tank lid often times people neglect to clean these off and food and such get stuck on them from frezys and such and molds and you can smell it check that out and let me know

try adding carbon in your filter, it usually removes and smelly stuff.

and you are way overstocked for a 20G. +

Yeah... carbon in the filter works like baking soda in the fridge. It not only cleans the water and neutralizes ammonia, but it also helps to partially alieviate the odor. If your tank is smelly, the first culprit I'd check is the filter! Everytime I would have a 'fishy' odor, I'd open the top of my HOB filter to find the disposable filter brown with gunk and mold growing on the inside of the lid. That's my two-cents anyways!
