Moving a filter from one tank to another

I should be getting my FX5 in the mail tomorrow:dance:. I'll be putting it on my 125 with an AC110. The tank is currently being filterred with a magnum 250 and the AC (horribly underfilterred, I know.) My plan is to move the magnum over to my 55 which only has an AC70. I think with the new filter and moving my current filter over, I'll finally have adequate filteration on both of my tanks

My question is: Is there any way to clean out the gross gunk that's in the intake tubing? There's a bunch of brown stuff in it but I'm not sure how to get it out. I plan to give the inside of the canister a good rinse and change out the ammocarb but should I be doing anything else?

To get out the gunk push through some fishing line with a small rag tied on the end then pull the rag threw with the line, repeat if necessary.

other people use warm water and bleach then use extra prime to break it down.

The gun barrel cleaning approach suggested by Blissskr should work quite well. If you tie a small heavy object, like a washer, to the line it will fall right through the tube and when pulling the patch through you will have something to hold onto without hurting your hand on the fishing line. You can also use a bottle brush if the tube you are trying to clean isn't too long.

i my self have a small round curtian rod that i push a rag thru the rod is like for hanging on door windows type things. its only like 1/4 round..

I'd say maybe use a trumpet cleaning tool

I use a bottle brush that is used to clean out bird feeders to clean out the intake tubes. It works prety well, after 2 strokes, its all gone.

Most any pet store should have brushes made for this. I have several that are different sizes. They are on a long wire type handle and just push them inot the tube while running water threw them. Works great and pretty cheap to.
