Moving LCD TV- need help!

Will respectuflly disagree.

I still would not risk it. The glass is self-supporting and with the vibrations of transport, can easily crack. The risk is also much greater for units larger than 32".

Lying horizontal (but static) when stacked for shipping purchases (and in carton) does not apply the same stresses as the kind it will likely experience during the proposed transport. I have personally witnessed an LCD monitor ruined by transport in this manner; it now has a permanent blue/red hue around the entire perimeter. By buddy was not pleased...

If you must transport it flat, make sure the glass side is up (not down). Sorry to complicate the decision making process :)

I say you "Spartan" it.
Carry the TV with your bare hands across the land.
Turn the trip into an adventure.
No technology, except for clothes and knives.
Preferably a spear.

But really, I kind of see where Vader is coming from. And if he has some proof with the advice.

$20 to rent small U-Haul, or broken LCD?

I wouldn't know, I have no experience with these things.
I wouldn't risk it though.

We shall agree to disagree then vader...

I actually asked my father who is a engineer on LCD TV's....and what i said also gets his agreement....

He has been in the Tv repair / maintenance industry for 49 years..i tend to listen to what he says...LOL

Erm...dont like to be a stickler in the mud here.....but, where does it state that an LCD TV cannot be laid down flat?? Thats horse do do i am afraid...It does not, nor will not hurt them. I have visited an actual factory where these are manufacturered stored, and yes, they are stored at the manufacturer flat, not standing on its end, in pallets...

When transporting, just ensure its properly supported, protected and secure...

If it was a plasma, then yes, i would agree, because of the thin glass....LCD's do not suffer from this...

:iagree: 100%

Well your wrong.

Your laptop, what kind of screen does it have? DING DING DING we have a winner! Its an LCD. Your iPod? LCD. Your cell phone? LCD. Your PSP? LCD. Get my point?

You can lay any item with an LCD screen flat. It is actually recommended to do so in transport if you do not have the original box. I have transported my 42" LCD screen down laying on my back seat of my car numerous times. No problems at all. Just have to be careful and can't drive your car like you stole it.

***Edit*** I should say most laptops are LCD. Just remembered my MacBook Pro is LED. The average laptop is LCD.

No worries folks, we really don't have a choice here. We're simply out of room in the car AND the truck, and we had to postpone everything until tomorrow due to crappy weather.

And BTW, we didn't exactly cheap out on the U-Haul... We have the 17 footer. $300 for 4 days for a 440 mile move. It's just full from moving a 3 bedroom house worth of stuff. ;) LOL

U-Haul SUCKS! lol. They charge an arm and a leg for mileage.

Hope the move is going well.
