moving my tank

i have a 75 gallon tank, which at its current state weighs approximately 850 lbs. we are ripping up our carpet and putting in wood floors in the room my tank is in. so therefore i have to move my tank and everything. what would be the best way to go about this. i was thinking about draining about 50 gallons of water out of the tank and getting a few guys to just pick up the stand and everything all at once and move it. i really dont want to comepletely drain my tank and have to put my fish in buckets. its a little too stressful (for me and the fish) to net them.

any ideas??

If your buckets are big enough and kept pretty dark it won't be much stress on the fish. The hardest part is keeping the water the same temp that's about it.

Just make sure when you set the tank up again that it's LEVEL. Very important

another idea jsut came to me. i can put the fish in the bathtub!!! i'll just have to make sure the drain is closed tightly... ooohhhh... my girlfriend is gonna love this one, haha.

I'd worry about the cleanliness of the bathtub. Even if it has recently been cleaned very well, you'd have to worry about the chemicals used to clean it.

that was a joke, i wouldnt put my fish in the tub, my girlfriend would kill me.

Do not move the tank with more than like 30% of the water in there...you can eaisly stress the seals and have a nice little indoor pond!!!

ah yes, i defiently wouldnt want to flood my living room, that definetly wouldnt be cool. i dont know how long its going to take us to replace the floor, but my guess is maybe 2 days or so. i think i'll just wind up moving my entire tank into the kitchen or garage and just plugging everything back in that way. i think that would be optimal for my fishies. unless anyone can think of anything else i could do.

If it were me I would take the heater, fish, pump, and the amazon swords and buy a bucket from walmart....38gal for 10ish bucks. put them in there for the time being...and if you can put a light over it....it shouldnt hurt the swords to be without light for a day or 2....mine were without for 4 and did fine. Then drain all the water you can still leave just a little to cover the anacharis and the hairgrass....now that i look at your profile...get something else to put the eel in....with out many hiding places he may get way stressed. Keep the critters in the tub with pump and all for the 2 days and let the water just sit in the tank covering the plants and gravel...then just reverse the process.
