I have a friend who has just inherited a 55 gallon tank, planted, with one plec and two oscars (all about 10''). He has to move the tank about five miles to get it from one house to the other. I may have access to a 2' by 1' tank, but i'm not sure. He doesn't know much about the hobby, but is keen to learn, and has asked me, with all my three months of experience (!) to assist.

I'm scared.

Help.

Thanks, and by the way, i'm finally fully stocked. :dance

you can put them in a large bucket with the tank water from the tank they should be covered enough to swim they will live with no problems just wehn you get too the house set up the tank like usual and put them in

I would get a big tub or several gallon bucket and move them in that. (okay...I don't know oscars from platies, so if they're not friendly guys, I guess move them singly...)

We moved our fish - without a loss - from VA to FL last August. For 4 days our fish traveled in a big Rubbermaid tub. We took tank water and several cups of gravel from the tank, as well as the heater because of the length of the trip.

For your short trip I still advise taking several cups of gravel and also taking the filter (or just the media) and keeping it wet with tank water. That way, hopefully, your bacteria doesn't die off.

Hope someone with more experience comes with additional help. :)

Cheers Beagles. I hadn't even considered the need to keep the filter media wet.
Good shout. A friend of mine mentioned those plastic storage boxes, so i think we're going to go with those.
