The endler's are prolific, and gave me the excuse to purchase a new tank. These are my first livebearers and what a great purchase. They are going into their own 10G (that used to be the paladarium) with some cherry shrimp on the bottom or possibly moving the 3 juli's from the 55G. Decisions, decisions!
The new tank is a 20G long and it will be the new paladarium set-up. I currently house 2 FB newts and 1 FB toad (I know the horror stories, this has worked for almost 2 years and I've monitored very carefully with the intention of separating them if it didn't work). With the additional room, I may add my 3 white clouds from my betta tank and a few shrimp, and I've been following the freshwater clam thread with interest because that might be neat too. The tank will be heavily planted with 2 WPG but with mostly low lights since it will all be coming down in 2 months when we move 1100 miles. I think it might be interesting and if it doesn't work out everything can go back to it's original tank, since I am adding a 20G long and only buying more shrimp.
Would love to use eco-complete on the bottom but won't since everything is coming down in 2 months. The paladarium is currently eco-complete in areas with a layer of gravel (wasn't sure if the newts would try to eat it), will keep that for the endler's but move the filter and rock to the 20G with it's current filter (a fluval 1+ rated for up to 12 gallons). I have a new filter with old filter material for the 10, and I guess I'll need a heater, with the newts I don't have one, just a heat lamp for the toad when it's cold. I hope that the newts will love the extra area to explore and have been looking for an excuse to purchase this tank for the past 6 months.
I have most of the plants I need from my other tanks and have been growing java moss on driftwood in the 55 for this tank. Can't wait until noon when Uncle Ned's (Millis MA, WORTH THE TRIP FROM ANYWHERE IN NEW ENGLAND) opens and I can get my tank. Will try to post pictures when it's done.
