I came home yesterday to find that Mr. Betta had done a little damage to himself. I don't know what he could have done except get himself caught under the rock that is in his tank. He hid under the java fern all day yesterday only to come out to breathe. Today he ate a little but is still hiding. i have dosed the tank with Melafix and Pimafix. Also I have added some fresh stripped down aloe to his water. Is there any thing else i can do? The wound on his head seems pretty deep, it's down past the scale layer, into the flesh. Will his scales grow back? :help:
Yes, I have already removed the rock.

It looks to me like you may have more objects in the tank that could do damage to him as well - I don't really think that you can add much else to the tank, just make sure that you don't add too many medications to the tank - Betta's can be sensitive to that stuff. Instead of ripping his tank apart you may want to look into getting a 5Gal Rubbermaid container to keep him in as a "hospital tank" and just get an air stone or two in there so make it easier for him to breathe, no decorations. You can still dose in the container but it will be a lot easier to see if he eats, and you can keep a close eye on his injuries. Hope this helps! And I'm not sure if the scales will come back, it truly depends on how much damage he did.

lots of water changes. Clean water does more good than anything for healing. Poor little guy. I hope he is alright.

I would do a big water change immediately. Pimafix and Melafix aren't good for bettas. Truly, unless he starts showing signs of infection, the best thing you can do for him is just do like 50% water changes every day until he heals. Poor little guy. He looks really banged up.

Ok. thanks everyone! I will do the 50% changes till he heals. As to say for sure what caused it, I donno. the only thing that could do that is the rock I had in there. Dont know why he got hurt all of a sudden. Hes had the same rock for almost a year now. Silly Betta.
On the positive side, he is eating really well and is very active. I will post pics of him when starts getting better.
