I saw one like four months ago.

Two months ago I had water trouble one week and I lost both clown loaches and my pictus catfish. I guess the clowns were keeping them up.

So I'm vacuuming today and guess what? They are everywhere and they are big.

Pros and cons?

MTS keep your substrate areated. Its a plus especially with planted tanks. They live mainly in the substrate so much so that most times you rarely if ever see them. I dont know of any cons to having them, unless you just really dislike snails. FWIW there shells are to hard for most loaches and puffers to crack.

My light is on and I'm looking at four right now. :22_yikes:

As said they keep substrate aerated, which is perfect. As it was also said, the more you overfeed, the more they will appear. But also I had clown loaches once, and they did manage to eat them without breaking the shell. Now, I don't know if they were magicians but they kept the population at stake, but never exterminate them. If you dislike them, get some clown loaches, but if you are overfeeding try to control it so you can control the population better. No cons so far! Good luck!

I feed once a day. Maybe I'll cut back on the pellets, but the clown plecos seem to like those.

I'll keep an eye on the dojo and angelicus to see if they bother them.

Will they eat the algae on my glass?

My angleicus loach and my yoyo loach both are artists at sucking the MTS out of there shells. They never put a dent in the snail population in my 75 tho.. It is really cool to watch them do that.

The trouble with clown loaches is tank size. There are plenty other alternatives. As far as MTS are concerned, they have very little number of predators due to hard shells as Blueiz previously stated and a trapdoor enabling them to avoid predation. Loaches can suck them out of their shells provided they're not too large for their mouths. Those with more elongated snouts such as the Syncrossus helodes are more versatile but nastier for a community setup.

Your Botia kubotai will find a way to finish off several MTS but with their snout shape, they can be less versatile compared to others. Your dojos will have trouble picking the MTS so very slim chance of them trying to eat MTS.

Now I'm spotting babies all over the place.

Do you think they are in my filter. I've noticed more air shooting out of my eheim lately.
