I have a 29g with lot of mts. I am tearing down the tank so would be just throwing out the substrate. I wanted to check with you guys if its ok to just thow out the substrate with MTS in it.
Yeah, if possible, I would bag and freeze the substrate, just to make sure you are not releasing any into the wild. AZ might be warm enough for them to survive.
ppl here give 'em for free...one of the LFS is overloaded with MTS...another LFS tries not to get MTS in any of their tanks...
I am not sure how to freeze entire substrate...its hard to catch every single MTS in the substrate. isn't it? or should i treat the tank with some solution that would kill invertibrates and then just dispose substrate?
To freeze, just take out all the water from the tank, and scoop the gravel into several layers of plastic grocery bags. Shove it in the freezer for 24 hours.
Or, you can empty out most of the water, and pour in a bottle of rubbing alcohol.
