Mud for my mudskipper

Why not soak river mud/sludge in salt water for while and vice versa for Marsh mud?
Do it outside though as odors from mud/sludge may be very unpleasant.

I'm going to upload pics tonight. I have Play Sand in my mudskipper tank and they have a really nice long/deep hole they dug and it has not lost it's shape. They even made the entrance to the hole long where it's right on the waters edge. They also have a little whole they dug that hasn't lost any shape. They have been up for over a month now. I'll post pics tonight and show you. I think sand works just fine. :P

Okay, I do have a little bit of pond mud I collected last week (made of algae and silt from the sides of my pond) but I tried to get this and this from my reptile store, but the guy said it could kill my mudskipper. I was only gonna use it for the bigger tank that i would put my mudskippers in eventually, but what do I do? I hear of this red clay made for fish tanks, so could I use that?

I've also thought of harvesting algae (there's WAAAY to much) in my pond and keeping it in a dark place so it dies, and using that for my mud. What do you think guys?

If you could find some kind of container(s) to put the mud in and figure out a way to conceal it with plants and such (in a way that looks natural), it would make for a pretty sweet mud bank. Or are you going for mud as substrate?

I've use baked sand from nearby river banks with no ill affects. I bake it at 200-250 for 30 min to an hour to kill any bugs. For soil, the temp needs to get up to 180 (i have heard 200 as well) to sterilize it. Also, with dirt you have to make sure it contains no pesticides, herbicides, and isn't high in organic matter (like potting soil) or you're in for a massive algae bloom.

All my pics of the mud sand mix substrate are in the photo gallery. I just need to find more bank and river mud, but there's very few rivers and banks in LB.

How do you keep your play sand clean? I had that for a while, but it got reeaaaalll nasty, now I just have rocks, bamboo, and water

Since I can't find any real mud anywhere, I'm just going to use worm castings, since they do have some kind of clay like properties to them. To prevent the water from becoming nutrient soup, I'm going to add alot of plants in the worm castings and border it with sand at the shore.

Would this work?
