Well I noticed that Petco is having their dollar per gallon sale and I've been wanting to get a 10 gal for a while but haven't seen any good deals. Anyways I was looking at what I could stock it with and I came across multies. I was thinking of getting maybe 5 or 6 in a 10 gal with an Aqua-Tech 20-40 as filtration. Would this be too many for a 10 gal or should I get less? Thanks in advance

Hmm this doesn't show up in recent threads... mods can close if they want

I would get a 20 long if you have the space for it. It is 30" long and 12" wide. It gives you nearly twice the surface area(360 sq inch vs. 200), to give them a little more space to establish territories. The other think is to make sure there are extra shells for the fish to claim.

even if you can't find/afford a 20 long, a 15 gallon would be a better idea over a ten. just as verbal said the more surface area the better (oxygen/territories)

I would have mentioned a 15, but it does not appear to be one of the tanks included in the sale. They also don't have standard 30s, which are a great tank IMO.

20L is the best tank for dwarfs. I have 3 N. boulengeri with a dwarf pleco in a 20g tall and am switching to a 20L today. They do not use the top 1/2 of the tank so the longer, the better.

Plenty of people have had success in 10s. Not saying that more space wouldn't be better but as long as you're diligent removing fry and you keep an eye out for unruly males you would be fine. 5-6 would be fine but make sure there's no more than 8 or so adults/sub-adults in the tank at one time. Also make sure to cover the bottom in shells.

Great thanks for the replies guys. I'll probably get the tank either this weekend or the next and get a journal going.
