Can I put two or three plecos of different variety in a 125? will they fight?

Im thinking of bristle nose, zebra, gold nugget, and albino.

yes, they will be fine. sometimes members of the same species will show aggression towards each other but it is not a problem in a large tank.

personally, i would not get a zebra pleco unless i was willing to begin a breeding program

Why's that?

Zebras are semi endangered fish. People who own zebras often attempt breeding them to help put them off the endangered list. BTW, do you have any idea how much they cost? Be prepared for sticker shock.

Oh, and I'll give you a heads up on the zebra market. If you see one for less than 200 bucks, it's most likely either a scam, or a different pleco with similar markings.

Tank size should be fine for multiple pleco habitation though. Lots of caves, lots of hiding places, and the territorial ones should be able to spread out.

why 250? zebras only reach 5 inches. . . .

Ok, well zebra is out lol
I just seen some on a website and really liked the looks of them, but I didnt realized they were endangered, or nearly that expensive.!!

Do plecos need wood in the tank?

and would a pleco live with cichlids or not? I read somewhere that the cics tend to eat the eyeballs of plecos?!

Many plecos (if not all iunno fo sho) have wood as a part of their healthy diet....and it depends on the type of cichlids they are (more/less aggressive) i know fo sho people keep many Synodontis as bottom feeders with semi-aggressive Malawian Cichlids, but i do not know if it is the same with plecos.

hope that helped!

Plecos do need wood in the tank. The panaqes actually have to eat the wood (royal, clown and others) but the other species all scrub on wood to provide fiber in their diet. You can keep plecos with cichlids, but the less agressive the cichlid, the better as some of them do go for the eyes. Individual personalites of fish differ, so no matter what, you'll have to watch your tank untill you know if they are getting along.

I'm glad you're going to pass on a zebra, by all accounts, they are difficult to keep. Gold nuggets are also pretty sensitive fish, so you might want to start with a more hardy plec. Commons, albino or not, are tough as nails, and often have a pleasing personality. Bristlenose are another good choice, have you looked at veiltail bristlenose? Might suit your exotic tastes a little better, while still keeping with a hardy and avaliable fish. Royals are pretty durable if they get past the first month in your tank, and make an attactive centerpiece fish. Rhino plecs are muddy in color, but have an almost comical plumpness to the body that makes them fun to keep. This is the tip of the iceberg in plecos.

Oh yeah... since you liked the zebra.. have you checked out scribble, or king tiger plec? Queen arabesque?
