Multiple starfish in newly setup tank

What sort of problems do they present? Is it like Black Beard/string algea in a planted tank? Is there a way to avoid them after the afforementioned treatment?

The peppermint shrimp help control the Aiptasia and the Joe's juice will get rid of it - might have to squirt them a couple of time for it to finally take hold.

I've loved sea stars ever since 1997. If I had a marine tank, I'd just set it up for sea stars and shrimp. I've never seen them on any liverock though

My tank is going really good now. I got a couple pepp shrimp and they have pretty much done the trick on the aiptasia. As for the stars, there are about 6 or 7 the size of a dime, I also found a pencil eraser sized serpent star that is all over the place. I'll try to start a new thread with some pics. I've got some corals going, a jawfish and two black clowns. I'm really glad I used the "expensive" live sand. It made the cycle come and go fast.

Right. Keep in mind that the vast majority of reefs are ~82 degrees and most of our fish are obviously associated with that. Except for species that would move around substantially (tangs, etc.), most would be used to reasonably consistent warmer temperatures.

The slugs you mentioned are probable stomatella snails - very cool addition. They are broadcast reproducers, which is way cool.

I lost all mine a long time ago, but would do anything to get them back.

I see what you mean, there are tens of tiny ones all over the place! They are pretty cool though. I think I figured out why I lost the cardinal, the LFS had just gotten them in that day, and then I took it home. Maybe two acclimations in one day was just too much? Still, I don't like that peppermint anymore. He also ate half of a dime sized ricordia!
