Murdering aiptasia, best way?

What is the best way to get rid of aiptasia? I have read about using liquid calcium, lemon juice, peppermint shrimp, and the STOP AIPTASIA stuff at the LFS. I would prefer to go au natural and use a shrimp but what is it going to eat afterward? I have some yellow polyps in the tank too that might look quite appetizing to a hungry shrimp.

I am going away for 9 days but am just now noticing how big one of those aiptasia is getting next to my leather. The leather is finally looking good and that little aiptasia seems to grow an 1/8" of a day, literally. Think I should nuke it before I leave or get a shrimp (even though I am leaving tomorrow)?

I have two percula clowns and a gramma, plus the usual snail/hermit cleanup crew.

A fast response would be appreciated. Mogurnda I know you are up to the challenge and Maxilaria is usually right on top of new posts. Whoever answers first will get to see the pics from my 9 day diving trip in the virgin islands. :dive:

thanks

Well peppermints will eat pretty much anything so, that won't really be an issue. Joe's juice works really well. The peppermints will eat the little ones you can't see/get to and the j.j. will nuke the big one's that the shrimp don't seem to like.

I decided to hold off on anything until I get back. I think I will get a peppermint though. So when I do go to buy one, I should be looking for one that does not have dark lines. I have read that LFS sometimes call another sp (L. californicus?) of shrimp peppermint because they are so hard to tell apart unless they are right next to one another. I unfortunately have just found out that all three of my LFS used to be partners but have gone seperate ways because neither of them could agree on what was true or false. Its hard to know whats correct when all three places say the wrong thing. I am skeptical about getting a particular sp of shrimp when other more destructive species looks very similar.

Know any tell-tale identifiers?

Thanks maxilaria for being so quick with a response. If I get some good pics of common aquarium sp in their natural environment I will post them.

I don't know if I'd give them the 9 extra days either . They breed fast !
