Music Industry Proposes a Piracy Surcharge on ISPs

i dont know what the copywrite laws are in canada, but i would say that it is probably illegal to DL on sights like that...the music is copywrited and there for can not be distributed like the warning in the beginning of movies, u kno?

Radiohead's newest album (in rainbows) was posted on their website, and we are able to download it at whatever price we think it's worth . .. Which was a cool approach,

NIN posted their newest album, (ghosts) as a free download... They've done lots to promote this "new generation" of listening to music.

Bands like this are getting a great deal of respect from anyone concerned with what the RIAA are constantly trying to do to rip us off.

i would do that..... as long as the money goes to the artist..... no way the labels will get my money to give ot the riaa to sue everyone on earth.

from my understanding, here in Canada, it's legal to download, but illegal to upload... which is a little strange. lol. ..

yea thats what i meant... loopole ;)

is it actually an offence to download music on say limewire in the US?? cuz i think there are loopoles ( spelt right?? ) in the law in canada so it is legal to do.

I'm pretty sure DOWNloading in the US is legal. You need to establish a copyright status before you break the law, otherwise you don't know if you will until after you've done it. Also, look at all the articles. "Another person sued for downloading". But if you read the article, downloading is not mentioned, only sharing copyrighted music. I'm also reasonably certain that (again, in the US) copyrighted material is protected by making it a crime to DISTRIBUTE. So in my airline ramp rat with a degree in Culinary Arts non legal opinion, DOWNloading is legal, UPloading is not.

uploading is adding it to the internet.. download is taking it from and putting on your ipod... that doesnt make sense how you can put it on the internet, but not take it
