Muskellunge in 250g

Putting a large predatory fish such as a musky into a pond full of pan fish is one of the best things you can do to it. it keeps the small fish populations down and makes the adult fish in the pond bigger and more healthy basicly the fewer fish the more food. Blue gill and other such pan fish breed fast enough it would take several musky in a very small pond to clean out all the fish.

and for the stocking in a pond they will be happy if you just dump them in. if you've ever seen the game and parks stock fish they just dump them it the water through a modifide peice of 10" irrigation piping
 
Mocular, thats exactly what i was told. My grandfather kept Northern pike in his 1 acre pond, and the bass and bluegill were healthy. Some were the biggest ive ever seen. We used to catch and release the Pike on a regular basis. All the fish in his pond seemed big and healthy, and the popullation was pretty great.

It all depends if you want to catch lots of little fish, or just a few big fish. Adding a pike or muskie to a pond will incease the size of the fish, but you will have much fewer fish to catch. It depends on even more than this too. If the pond is struggling to keep a good population of blue gill, then adding a large predator will be disaterous. You might end up with just a single fish... The bottom line is that you really need to ask someone before releasing a muskie anywhere. If you have a pure muskie and release it into a lake with tiger muskie, the wildlife department sure won't be happy.

In addition, you will need a pond at least 20-25 deep to put a muskie in. The are used to being in 15-20 feet of water. This is definately important because of the thermocline.

A note to everyone involved in the post and anyone who ever reads it-

Since the muskie is apparently very adaptable, please, please, please- for the sake of my few weekends in the country, don't dump them in any trout ponds...
 
Muskie have a hard time spawning in ponds.

But in most farm ponds you'll need good dissolved oxygen and water temps for musky.

And yes musky can be a predator on panfish although they prefer soft finned fishes.
 
man, read my previous posts. I have already talked to quite a few people about keeping musky in my 250g, and will work out just fine. READ UP.
I have already found a big established pond to put them in after a couple of years when they grow to large for the tank. I Have talked to people that have kept them in home aquariums. Also, my grandfathers pond (again like i stated previously) was stocked with PLENTY of Northern Pike. The fish popullation was very healthy, and plenty of fish to catch almost every cast. Big and little. Even if you introduced them into a pond with a low panfish poplulation, I hardly doubt youd end up with just one fish.

do what you like to do, keep what you wanna keep, and be happy,.
but also be responsible, you sound like your on the right track, i say go for it. if it gets too big, release it in a river maybe and not a pond,.
to me it's all about the enjoyment of keeping the fish, yes there are risks and obligations and that is ur responsibility, but if you want to keep it, do..
if it gets to big to relese, kill it.. i surly doubt that the lost of 3 fish will end the population at all,. better to kill 3 muskies than 300 smaller food source fish and ruin a whole enviroment. i dont reccomend this for the masses, but how many are even willing to keep such a big fish anyways.
