Are you certain it was truly 18 inches? that person might need to get a ruler LOL

a 29 gallon tank is 12 inches wide.

It may have appeared 18 inches, but might have been more like 14..

I do find it hard to believe that an oscar can reach true 18 inches in total length..

my barbs are 18 inches (in a 90) and they are absolutely massive..

you are right - the original concept and website was just a joke. some people took it seriously as in "we have to get rid of this terrible thing!" and probably some people took it seriously as in trying to do it.

RE: 18" oscar in a 29g tank - with daily water changes to get rid of waste buildup, and proper feeding, you can most likely get a fish to a large size, but then the question is whether the fish, however physically healthy it might be, is actually having a 'good life' in such a small tank. i once saw a pacu that was kept in a 75g tank. it was huge, probably 20-25 lbs. didn't move, couldn't turn around, but the pet shop kept his water crystal clear.

Unless theres proof that someone actually tried to do it I find that highly doubtful.
