mutant rummy noses?

I knew there were 3 different species, but I thought it was just a matter of the red coloration. I did find a few mins ago that some have this horiz. line. I'm not sure....I suppose it's pOssible, but honestly both me and my friend when we walked up on this fish went "WTF?!?!?!" in unison it was THAT ODD. They were huge. HUGE. 2+ is an understatment. They were the size of my odessa/rosy barbs, only not as fat.

I dunno, Maybe they were this species but just really large for their species. Like a 35lb dachshound... LoL it happens. I'm gonna try and get a pic though. Maybe i can borrow a camera.

EDIT: sorry, photo was misleading. See below for my "updated" reply.

Biggest hint that it is not a tetra is the lack of an adipose fin (small fin between the dorsal and caudal (tail) fin.

Pretty sure that there's none of the rummynose tetra variants reach 2"+.

I was at Petco a couple days ago, looking for a new betta and saw some very interesting fish that they had marked as Rummy Nose tetras. I know there are 3 different varieties based on color pattern of their nose. These fish were total weird mutants. first off, they were HUGE. They had them in a tank next to Scissor Tail Rasboras. They were the same size, about 2+" long. Their tails were striped like normal, but different. like, super intense and just odd...I can't really describe them any better than that. the most blatant oddity was they had a dark stripe that ran from their tail, to about half way up their body. Very much like this actually

Has any one ever seen this fish? It seemed like a hybrid between a true rummy nose, and this scissor tail rasbora above.

any info? They were actually REALLY striking, and I wondered if they would school with true rummy noses. Is this a new species?

That is not a tetra. All tetras have a small fin between the dorsal and tail. This fish does not---it is a Rasbora==100% sure.

okay please READ the OP. I did not say this picture was the fish. I said the fish I saw had a line through it's body LIKE the scissor tail rasbora. I specifically referenced that fish. I googled scissor tail rasbora to find the pic!

When I said "Has any one ever seen this fish?" I did not mean the one in the pic. I meant the one I described.

I'm not sure about the size, but given your description it really does sound like Hemigrammus rhodostomus. Three stripes with a line up the back of the body. They have the red nose but it's only to the gill plate as bleheri (fish commonly called rummynose). As I understand H. rhondostomus are larger as well, although I don't think they're that large. Then again, if they are wide-caught then it's quite possible.

You're losing me with the clues. Never heard of those descriptions or it just seems difficult for me to get the closest familiar figure. No pics?

Regardless of what it is, I'll bet money it won't school with regular rummy nose tetras. Most fish in my experience will only school with fish of their kind. I've had several schools of cory cats before and none of them would school with each other preferring their own kind.
