I thought I’d chronicle a little bit about my tank…

1/18, about 2 weeks into a fishless cycle w/ ammonia

Substrate – 1 in. fluorite, 3 in. pea gravel on top
Lighting – 2x24W T5HO
No ferts, no CO2

2/7; cycle complete, fish in, lots more plants

got some great plants from LFS, also got some things from AC forum; everything is filling in pretty nicely. I've been real happy with the T5s.

I do have a plant id question, if you're interested:

what's this? It's the only one I haven't indentified. The one with the lilly pad looking leaves, not the (I think) dwarf sag that is barely making it.

Here's what I think I have in there for plants:

  • Melon sword, Echinodorus Osiris
  • Broad leaf Sagittaria, Broad Leaf Sag, Giant Sag, Sagittaria platyphylla
  • Hornwort, Ceratophyllum submersum
  • Moneywort, Bacopa monnieri
  • Anacharis, Elodea, Egeria densa
  • Primrose, Ludwigia repens
  • Anubias barteri, Anubias barteri v. barteri
  • Onion plant, Crinum thaianum
  • Water Sprite, Ceratopteris thalictroides,
  • Wisteria, Hygrophila difformis
  • Java Fern, Microsorum pteropus
  • Banana plant, Nymphoides aquatic
  • Java moss, Vesicularia dubyana,
  • Dwarf Sag, Sagittaria subulata
  • Baby tears, Micranthemum umbrosum
  • Guppy grass, Najas guadalupensi
I put a beta fish in there when my ammonia and nitrites hit 0 consistently, followed shortly be 6 cardinal tetras. I added 3 ottos and a clown pelco on Thursday and 6 white cloud minnows today. I'm planning on adding 3 more cardinals and 6 rummynose tetras and I've yet to decide on a showcase fish, maybe a couple of angels.

If you've read this far, I might as well ask you another question. What do you think of the rock moss wall in the front?

This is a point of contention in our house. My wife has creative control over plants and I'm in charge of fish and logistics; the rock moss wall is her creation. I think it's kind of goofy, especially with the bow front, but she loves it. We're wagering on popular opinion.:help: haha

Thanks for looking; suggestions and critics welcome!

Thanks to all the AC forum members; I've benefited from all the great info on the site!

Nice tank, i like BF's also.......:)

Nice progress!

I will also post this here in case...

Plant in question is brazilian pennywort (Hydrocotyle leucocephala)

It looks like you have it in front, but it will grow tall, about as tall as you let it. I would either move it to the mid-background or let it float. It's a nice floater IME.

Great looking tank!
