Your water bill varies quite a bit according to your location. Here in Memphis, we are sitting on loads of fresh water, so it is hardly a concern. Other towns are not so lucky, remember the rationing last Summer. I'm neglecting to back this up with any referenced facts, because this is a build thread, and the decision has already been made that the water bill isn't an issue
Also,
Is this going to make your house unsellable, or are you actually adding equity? Your house is definitely going to be in a niche market now, hope you can find some rich hobbyist when the time comes to sell. I'd like to see your real estate agent pitch that house to a young couple.
I live in New Orleans, LA on the westbank of the Mississippi River. We are also bordered on the to the south by freshwater and brackish lakes, tributaries, and marsh along with the Gulf of Mexico. North of New Orleans is Lake Pontchartrain. We are surrounded by water here and in fact are below sea level. We have no lack of water.
A tank of this nature DOES NOT add equity to your house. It's a liability at best. I'm building the tank structure in 6 sections that will be bolted and screwed together. Each section will be 4'x4' and stand on its own. The plywood inside the tank will overlap the sections. Where each section meets the 2x6s will be screwed together making the skeleton essentially 4x6. If I decide to sell my house, I remove the liner and acrylic, remove the plywood, unbolt/unscrew the sections, load and move them to new location, frame in the house walls, sheetrock, float, paint, trim, done.
Acrylic comes in standard sheets. Any cuts that you have them make causes the price to skyrocket. My intent is to use a standard 4x8 or 4x10 sheet as the front window. I'm getting a quote from a local plastics place and waiting on my friend to give me a price from his source.
Last night:
Moved the 2 AC 110s from a 90 to the 210
Today so far:
Disconnected Dolphin AV-150 air pump from all the tanks
Unplugged all the heaters on the tanks on the rack by the laundry room
Drained all the tanks to 25% and moved them to the floor
Dismantled the rack
Setup the rack in the garage
Drained 40% of the water out of the 210
Pumped water out of a 75 into the 210
Moved heater from 75 to 210
Moved the 2 AC 110s off the 75 to the 210
Moved fish from that 75 into the 210
Hooked up the 4 AC 210s
Moved some fish from one of the 10 gallon tanks to the 210
Removed Eco-Complete and gravel mix from 75
Moved 75 to garage
Realized I need to get some black paint to paint the 210 stand and the backs of all the tanks going on the stands. About to head to Kmart and get some paint.
