my 5.5 gallon crab tank

even though your tank might be hard to clean, and has a lot of sand, I think your current set up would be good for crabs.

I might consider getting an external canister filter, or powerhead, and running the output tube into the sand, under the beach area, so the water would flow up from under the sand, helping to reduce stagnant sand and gas build up.

if you get a few smaller stones and strategically bury them in your mountain, you may be able to find a structure that erodes more slowly, keeping a fair amount of sand above water, and giving the crabs somewhere to burrow. if given a proper habitat, your crab will dig a burrow and spend a lot of time guarding it. if you're lucky, the burrow will find it's way to the glass in one area or another, and you'll have a little viewing window into it from the side. a crab's burrow will usually have it's floor right at the waterline... so be sure to have land at least 3-4" deep above water, so they can dig accordingly.

crabs like plants as well... some to eat, some just to climb on and hide under.... and plants can help you control erosion and nutrient build up in your land mass. give some small plants a go if you can... maybe some dwarf sag or something undemanding.

What kind of rock is the one in the front? DO you have a better picture of it? I think I have it, but I want to make sure.
