My 5 gallon RCS tank

I think the plants I chose should grow in anything over 1wpg. The dwarf sag was questionable but I've seen new growth since I planted it. The anubias and the crypts have also shown decent growth. I want to get some height which I think the unknown crypt I the back right will provide once given some time to grow considering the mother plant in my 36 is about 8in tall or so.

Most rcs are just too fast for slow bettas, I had one in my shrimp tank and it was funny watching him try to catch them...
 
i personally wouldnt put both sex of livebearers in the tank one being that they breed more than rabbits(or well guppy lol) plus you would still only be able to have so many fish in the tank and aesthetically female guppy are not very good looking and a male only tank would look alot better especially if you have 2-3 different colors/patterns

and i love your idea for the filter sponge inside the intake tube im going to have to steal that idea
 
that wpg rule is pretty unreliable especially with our small tanks, but hey if youve got growth, that's all that's important hehe.
 
Thanks for the compliments and input everyone! I'll post up what I choose for fish, if any at all. Right now leaning towards some dwarf cories (if I can find them locally) or a betta.

Haha, I'm flattered. Make sure you only put the sponge in the intake guard, not up into the tube. Also, don't pack it too tight or you can stall your filter. Just enough sponge to fill the intake guard and not worry about it getting sucked up the tube and into the impeller.
 
The shrimp will be enough for bottom feeding, so you don't want cories. That puts all of the action - and competition - on the bottom of the tank.

I've never kept white clouds, cpds, endlers or rummynose tetras, so I have no advice there. Neons would work in the tank, but unless you have a lot, they just hover in one spot, making them boring.

A good choice could be a dwarf platy, they sell them at petsmart. They're nice little fish that seem to get along well with everyone. Get a couple and hope that they're all the same sex. Guppies would also do well.

The problem with small tanks is it keeps you from having very interesting fish. Your choices are very limited.
