My 55g Reef Build.. Pics Updated Daily

:iagree: I think I would have gone with at least 1" since most overflow boxes use that size plumbing. 1-1/4" is the size of the flex piping that is normally attached to the CPR type overflow box and the wet/dry filters that fit in the base or stand.

filled it with water today.. everything holds and the sump is working beautifully

BTW- I am not concerned about the small drain for 1 reason.. I am running the tank and a fairly low water level (will be covered with a hood shortly anyway)... it is completely flood proof... The sump has enough space to hold ALL the water that could possibly run out of the tank (once it goes below the drain holes it will stop)... and the tank has enough space due to the low water level to hold ALL of the water in the sump

Its looking good.. I will post some pics as soon as I get everything situated

Tank is up and running... I had some gurgling going on-- so I made some little slanted PVC fittings and installed them-- it works great.. awesome water flow with my pond pump, and no noise at all.

I am running at a fairly low water level to compensate for flood hazard.. next week I will be building a custom canopy to hide some of my equipment and some of the blank space on the top

PICS

acctually not a problem.. the way im running it I can unplug the pump and nothing will overflow

there is enough space in the tank to hold the entire sump.. and enough space in the sump to hold the water about the drain holes (which is all that can possibly drain)

Good stuff! looking good! ...

If you add some baffles in your sump ( I guess it would be a little harder with the rubbermaid container) but theoretically, if you add a baffle where your only loss would be in the right chanber, you can inclrease the water level in your main tank which will give you more water volume (and still be spill proof). That's pretty much the only change I would do.

Even without a flood, spills happen around a tank. At least to everyone I know.

Thats a really good idea-- I have 1 seperated chamber that is triangular in shape-- so only half my sump gets pumped up.. but I wouldnt mind adding another one

Very true-- I will probably look into something soon

Well I figured out the hard way that I need to clamp the hose onto my return pump better

I was sleeping and heard a bad noise... the hose had came off and pumped about 5 gallons of water on the floor

oh well... Off to buy a metal hose clamp tomorrow
