My 55g semi aggressive, 20g community

Well i know the the green tiger barb is full grown i believe. The rosy barb (2.5)now could double in size. So will the firemouth. Red tail shark (3'')may grow a little more.Gouarmies another inch which would make it 4''. My other tigerbarb is about 1.5'' now. Pleco about 3'' but will grow alot more. So the molly and betta will have 2 go soon along with red lamp tetra.

you definitely need to cut down on the amount of fish, I'd look for a new home for that pleco. If you get rid of the shark and the gouramis, maybe then you can look into another cichlid, or try to pair up your firemouth.

If i remove a few of smaller less aggressive fish, would a KEYHOLE cichlid be fine? Or will it stress out from tiger barbs? Will they hold there own from them?
I think my pleco will be fine for awhile. When it grows large enough i have a friend who will take it on. It will fit right in. My friend has 3 tanks of various sizes with various sizes of african cichlids. as for my firemouth, when he gets about 5'' i will find find it a home; unless i have a bigger tank by then.

the firemouth is fine in a 55 gallon tank. The keyhole is much more passive than the firemouth though. I'd look into Honduran red points, blue acaras, or rainbow cichlids if you want a cichlid that will be compatible with the firemouth.

The reason i was thinking about a keyhole is because from what i have read about on other websites, the firemouth is one of the few cichlids that seem to do fine with smaller community and smaller semi agressive fish they grow up with. Im sure they all have their own personality though, so opinions may differ.

I'm sure it differs for different people, but I've never been able to keep firemouths in a typical community setting, they always seem too aggressive. however, they do fine in cichlid community tanks and usually are not in the upper level of hierarchy in tanks like those (in my experience).

Well will see what happens. This setting i guess is one step up on the scale slighty from being a community fish seting. Maybe this works for awhile. Once the firemouth gets larger than other fish i may or may not have a situation. Im in process of movin the comunity fish left out of tank. My other semi agressive fish are 3-4'' long. They should be able to defend themselfs for the most part for now.
