My All Male Peacock Revue

Sorry for the loss, That can be the problem when trying to slowly acclimate shipped fish.

Also like DrgRcr said, the synos will be much happier in a group. I love these guys since they are so active! They are slow growers though. I wouldn't worry too much about them being tiny. I think they have some sort of spins or bad taste. When I first got mine a couple of my mbuna grabbed the catfish then immediately spit them out and made "yucky" faces. The catfish were unharmed and since then the mbuna leave them alone.

They look real nice! Sorry about the loss, but next time you can do the things I mentioned. It's not to say that's what happened, but it's one variable you can eliminate. As far as the syno cats, they do better in groups, probably 6 minimum. Petricola stay smaller at about 3". How big is your tank, I didn't see it mentioned? Can I ask where you got them also?

The tank is a 55 gallon. I saved some of the baggie water and tested it (later) for ammonia. I don't have my reference card handy, but I know this isn't good...

In this case, I think it was probably a good thing I abandoned the acclimation, though I'll know better next time. You would think they would put some AmQuell in their water, but maybe they did. I got the fish from LiveFishDirect out of Utah. They had the best selection and are one of the few places who sex the fish when possible. Even though they had put in a freebie, they're giving me $20. fish credit for next time.

I'd love to get the syno some buddies, but at $18. a head it may be a while. He's so cute, just scampers all over the place, including the German's head! They tolerate him, so I think he's okay.

Thanks, Blue. Yeah, he's really active, and no fear! I tried to get a pic of him crawling all over the German's head, who didn't bat an eye. Good to know they taste bad, though. lol

Your fishies are GORGEOUS!!! Sorry about your loss though, that stinks!

I also agree with Pitt about the size of that bag vs. the size of that fish. I noticed that but it slipped my mind while writing the first post. It's good to hear they credited you for the loss. I don't have the same test kit to compare results, but if you say that there was ammonia in the bag based on your pic, it's probably a good thing you stopped the acclimation when you did or the results could have been worse. I don't know of any place that adds water conditioner to the bags other than something like bag buddies or similar, which judging by the blue water, looks like your supplier did. I think you can do better on the price of more synos. Try here...http://www.davesfish.com/. Highly recommended, and he has lucipinnis for $12 when you get 6. They are basically identical to petricola. As a matter of fact, one is actually rarer than the other and is often sold under the incorrect name. I just don't remember which way it was!

Usually real petricola are difficult to find and lucipinnis are often sold as petricola. That's what happened to me. I bought what I thought were petricola but I looked it up and found out they were lucipinnis. There's a good chance the petricola you bought is actually a lucipinnis :)

Thanks blue for clearing it up for me:thm:! I knew it was one way or the other, just couldn't remember which way!:duh:

Yeah no doubt on that reading was ammonia man that's why when i ship to folk i add a clipping of 1 to 2" of Poly filter fiber it removes toxic ammonia, heavy metals, phosphates and harmful organics.. It works great..

Not to hijack Pitt, but when you add the poly fiber, do you just tear a piece off of one in your filter, rinse it, and drop it in the bag? I've got someone intersted in 12 Acei that would have to be shipped and I'm researching all the best methods.
