He tries to eat but just spits the flakes back out. It's almost like he can't swallow. I have changed their diet somewhat just to give them more variety.
I recently started giving them shrimp pellets (which the Gourami and Corey's love) but the Angel fish don't care for. I also began feeding dried blood worms on occasion which the Angel fish do eat. Is it possible a blood worm is lodged in his throat? I would think it would have dissolved by now?
I normally had just fed flakes until last week. Have I injured one of my favorite fish buddies?

No, he just doesn't like the food you're feeding. They are probably stale.

See if he'll eat any more fd blood worms. Don't worry about it getting lodged in his throat. Won't happen. As soon as the blood worms get wet, they start getting soft.

Angels can be finicky - especially if they are not liking the water conditions. Temp should be 77 to 80, either neutral or slightly acidic pH -- NO ammonia and little nitrates. Sometimes they like only live food, you can try getting some live brine shrimp from the local fish store and see if they'll eat it but make sure the water is perfect and clear. This may help,
Regards

Probably doesn't like the food, get a new variety of foods and see if they like any. He would love live food, but you could also do frozen bloodworms as apposed to freeze dried, my angel loves them.

IME, Angels are picky when purchased from a breeder.
they get use to what the breeder feeds them.
but in general P. Scalare (domestic) are usually voracious eaters.. they devour flake , pellets blood worms and just about anything they can fit in their mouths.
if they are picky see if they will eat thawed , frozen bloodworms.

keep an eye on them as they are prone to a few parasites.. but do not be alarmed and start arbitrary dosing of meds.

if they are eating blood worms then start adding a good quality flake to the mix.
they need to be weaned off and aquainted to other foods.

btw many domestic angels are so far removed from wilds and have adapted to many different water conditions.
if they eat then spit out blood worms I would re address the issue. as this is a Sx of other problems that could(operative word) arise.

Okay, it looks like you all were right. It looks like he was just being picky. I bought some new flakes and he snarfed them down. He seems to be his normal self again... mean.
Thanks for the advice all.
