After coming home just a while ago, I noticed I had eggs on one side of the intake for my Rena FilStar!!! My gold angel (smaller of the 2) is a little beat up, but still going strong! My other half-back is a little on the shy side. Now, I am trying to figure out who male and who is female. The gold angel has a good sized "thing" under him/her and the other doesn't show one at all. The eggs now are all white (a good sign I hope). Should I be worried about the pleco eating the eggs??? Thanks!

Another q, is their any reason why my gold angle would slowly swim up the intake? It looks like he/she is fanning the eggs, but he/she has their body basically pressed up against the eggs. I have never breed angels before. Also, how am I gonna do water changes?? The eggs stretch up to the last inch or 2 before meeting with top of the water. I need to do one bad! Thanks!

The eggs should be an opaque color, and from the sounds of it, the Gold is actually fetilizing the eggs, so its probably the male. Watch out for the well being of your other inhabitants though, angels get quite aggressive when defending eggs/fry. Way to go for ya! Also the pleco may try to eat the eggs, but he may not, and if he does try the angels will deffinately try to kick the crap outta him, so it may discourage him.

Forsure male on the gold!! He's gotsa pointy thing! thanks! When can I expect to see fry?? Also, are their any special requirements I need to take before I have fry?? Thanks!

Another thing, how am I going to do water changes??? If the eggs are out of water say 20 minutes tops, will it hurt them??? I need to do a water change. Especially since I have treated the tank with Melafix. My water line is 1 to 2 inches below the top of tank now and the bottom is sooo messy! Please advise! Thanks!

Well, my angels did me a favor. They ate all the eggs. At least, I now know I have a compatible pair. Plus, I can do my water change later today!!! After exminingthe egg again earlier, 99% were clear while the 1 or 2 eggs I saw were a solid white (opaque). It;ll also give me a chance to set up a proper breeding area too. Thanks for the info!

4 days from the time of spawn to "wriggler" state...
3 more days after "wrigglers" until they are "free swimmers"...

After that, it's plenty of baby brine shrimp, live or frozen, over the next 6-8 weeks.

The opaque eggs are infertile or fungused eggs, clear yellowish eggs are fertile and healthy.

20 minutes outside of the water would probably be lethal for the eggs, temperature really isn't a "big" deal during that time, however mid 70's to low 80's is about best. The main concern would be dehydration followed by dust and nasties in the air
