My aquarium tried to kill me

mycobacteria - that's the one that is linked to/causes Fish TB I believe

Is it? Just out of curiosity if it is, did they do a PPD (skin test for TB)? I always wondered if being exposed to fish TB would effect a PPD test.... if technically it is TB of your skin...

Geez, you're the first person I've known that's gotten it! Scares the crap out of me, I have almost no immune system due to several severe lyme disease infections and I've tried the gloves and the thin ones my fingernails go thru, the thick ones....well you might as well put shoes on your hands and try to work in the tank! 4 years ago I contracted a rare blood infection when our puppy barely broke my skin with her puppy tooth while we were playing. Felt sick for a year with low grade fevers, then developed lots of internal cysts filled with pus which indicated infection. Cultured my blood, had to send it out of state to identify the bacteria, no one knew what it was. First one who laughs or asks me if I bark....watch out:devil:. The harmless bacteria found growing normally in dogs and cats mouths was growing prolifically in my blood!!! There is no other recorded case of it! A few months of cipro cured me and almost killed me at the same time, rough stuff. I'm so afraid of this Mycobacterium. I do get patches of rashes on my arms from having them in the tanks so often. I agree, can you post a pic of your sick arm??? Please get better!

Lawl, you need to find some gloves that go up to your armpits, immediately, and never start syphons with your mouth.

OMG...you have mafia shrimp!!!

Wow, that looks very unpleasant!!

I was right. That does indeed look quite gnarley. I probably would have gone to the doctor also.

It would be really nice if somebody would submit an article on health concerns related to aquariums.

Any doctors on the boards? ;)

Students, here's a good topic for a school essay. ;)

I (and I'm sure many of you) would like to learn more about how our aquariums can kill us.
