My aquascaped planted 10 gallon.(Ongoing journal)

Thanks.....I have to find some wood and stones to put in there yet and.......
I was thinking of loading the patch to the right with a dense planting of bocopa?
Anybody have any Ideas on plants?
 
Wow, that's a really cool idea! Looks almost like a "river" of sand flowing in the middle. :-P Definitely looking forward to future updates!
 
Wow, nice start! I was considering doing something similar when i set up my 36 bow a few months back. Really making me wish I had, oh well. Have you considered using diff. types of moss and anubias attached to some pieces of lace rock and driftwood which would be situated on each side to slope down to the central valley? You could use diff. mosses on each side or something to that effect and if you find the right piece of wood you could rig it to shoot out from one side over the valley. Or you could create a bridge effect to simulate a fallen tree. Think this would look real cool once moss fills in!! As for some other taller plants to mix in with the flourite areas (you would need to obviously be careful not to cover all the flourite with the rocks and wood; but with a little tinkering I think you could def. leave enough open spaces for the body of the plant stems...past that the roots will spread under the rocks). I think Bacopa is a fine choice, really any variety and it should be ok with your lighting and CO2. Vals would be another great choice to recreate the jungle valley effect. I would also consider incorporating some crypts. Crypt Spiralis for sure and poss. some nice bronze and red wendtii to add color variation. Crypt Walkeri is nice too, little lighter and brighter green usually. Another nice thing about the Crypts is their versatility; you could use these in areas on the rocks/wood and areas where you can't reach the substrate but still need some plant height. Drilling holes in the driftwood works great, or fishing line until they attach. For the rock they should attach themselves to lace rock, or again you can drill the rock a bit. I have done this before to mount coral frags to live rock as well. There are also some nice anubias which grow pretty tall and have nice bold leaves. Most of the Barteri varieties grow taller and if you can find it the Variegated Barteri is just beautiful; I have also found that some of the taller types of Anubias like a little higher light than the Nana or Petite for example. A couple other nice tall Anubias are Pynaretii, Minima, Frazeri, Gillettii, and of course Gigantea. Sorry I got a little carried away, I think I started believing this WAS my tank!:grinyes: Seriously though, heck of a start and I'm really jealous....keep us updated.

Sorry just noticed that this tank has 3-3.5 wpg, not 2 wpg right? In that case the plants are much more open...you could def. keep Rotala Wallichi, which would compliment the Bacopa well. If you wanted to deal with a few of the potential shortcomings of Foxtail varieties, those should work with your lighting. I think that there are a few swords that would do alright too, but I feel like even one may take over a ten gallon eventually.?.? Some types of Hygros may work nicely as well. I have Wisteria and Polysperma (Tropic Sunset Hygro) and they are just awesome!! ---:)Best, Tim

P.S. I think the crypts and anubias would still do fine under the lighting after they adjust. I have some under higher lighting than yourself and they have all been doing great for a little over two months now.

I was thinking about rotala ..I think that is what I am going to use plus the bocopa...
Now i have to work on the hardscape.
