I guess since I've been here buzzing on and on about my fish, I forgot to mention I was an artist. I have been drawing since I was 4 or 5, and now finally, I have my own website for selling and showing my artwork. It is mainly wildlife oriented, and alot of the wildlife is native to Florida (where I live). I have a good amount displayed right now, but there will be more eventually. If you guys don't mind, have a look, and please tell anyone else you think would enjoy it about this website. I need as much exposure as I can get. And since I haven't found a job in my feild, or out of it, I'm going to try to do this for a while, to see if it gets off the ground enough for me to make a living.

Wow Phenomenal!

Angela,

This work is remarkable! I am an amateur pen-and-ink artist mostly, doing work with wildlife mostly as well, with some colored pencil work here and there, and dabbling of digital art (using GIMP and PaintShopPro 7).

I know a number of people who claim to be artists (as most of us do) and I have to graciously say, "that's really nice" because they do well as individual attempts go, but in the big picture of professional work, they really fall short. But you don't want to hurt any feelings.

However, what you have presented here, if quality the resolution carries through to full size as well, is absolutely FANTASTIC!

I might even rate you up with my cousin Don McMichael, who is a world renowned artist of marine life. His stuff is viewable at http://www.donmcmichael.com/

If you are into the big bucks end, and want to work hard at it, I think you would go far. Don, retired from the Coast Guard, does shows around the country and in Hawaii and lives comfortably off of his art alone.

Yes, it's hard work. But from what I see, you've got the right stuff to make it!

Very nice Angela! I really liked taking a look at your portfolio...beautiful images. :) It would be really nice to see one of those colourful prints on your first page.

One small suggestion... a watermark over each of your images would make it difficult for someone to steal your artwork.

I'll have to do that. I am going to put a pic on the front page in an hour or so, I just did another update. I better do that until I have a decent pic of myself. ;) Because I made the images so small, I guess I didn't worry about watermarking them. But I will now, thanx for the good suggestions!

Fish Head Aric, thanx for that link to your cousin's site. His work is great! Beautiful colors! I unfortunately don't work well with oils, I have with acrylics though. Thanx alot for your complements too! Thanx everybody!:)

I understand. We all have our preferred media. I could NEVER master paint no matter how hard I tried. My wife on the other hand paints up a storm but could NEVER master pen-and-ink. Neither of us have the patience for the others' media.

As for Don McMichael's work, he started doing really awesome charlcoal works of wales, old schooners, whaling ships and coast guard craft, plus a lot of scrimshaw work on ivory when back in the 60s and 70s (you could get it legally). But people prefer paint, so he disciplined his craft toward paint - a major feat I think. Many of his underwater scenes capture image, including the diffused light, so well you might almost think "photograph."

Your work with color as shown on your website definitely rates with illustrator quality, as many wildlife publications feature.

I love the salamanders by the way :D

Glad somebody likes those salamanders! I was worried about people not really being drawn to them because those types of animals aren't typically thought of as beautiful. Both the Georgia Blind & Flatwoods salamanders are endangered, and I don't think people realize that such small, out of sight animals are even there. That's the main reason why I'm illustrated these guys, so people will know their out there, and in need of protection. In fact, many of the species on my site are endangered in the state of Florida. I printed out a list of all threatened and endangered species in my state and it filled 1 1/2 pages. So, I decided to do every one that was on that list.

awwww what's not to love??? My family kept a Pacific Giant Salamander for 4 months and then released him after a harsh winter (story told elsewhere). That glossy, milk-chocolate skin with ebony cheetah spots, those big golden and black eyes, that cute muppet-face! But then I find beauty in many of "God's misunderstood creatures."

Just look at this critter (follow link to host site) and say he's ugly!

Aww, s/he's cute! They really are something, those slimy lizard -like creatures. Every time I see tiger salamanders at the pet store I want to hold one. But I've read it's not good for them, because pathogens from our skin can be absorbed through their own skin.

Speaking of misunderstood creatures, I even like spiders and bats. Try finding another girl who likes those sorts of things! I guess I've always had it in for the underdogs of the animal world. There's just something about them that you've got to love. Anything that looks weird to other people, I have always seen as cute. It is so true that many creatures are misunderstood by humans, but who are we to set them up to our own standards? It's a bit unfair. I don't think it's their fault for being and looking so strange, because it all has purpose somehow, and we should make more effort to try and understand that. I think many of those aspects apply to our species as well, and if we could realize that, maybe things will change for the better in our coexistence with other species.~ Angela
