My Banggai Cardinals Are Breeding

man,,,sorry to hear about your cat...OUCH...that had to have hurt ( the cat and the wallet)
glad to see the fry are doing well!!

The fry, while slowly declining in numbers, were doing quite well. The ones I left in the main tank were growing very quickly. They had easily grown to 3x the size they were when the male first released them. Then, they disappeared... :( My best guess is that either the female Banggai or the female clown decided they had grown large enough to be a nice snack. Perhaps one or both of them was the reason their numbers kept dwindling all along.

Consequently, it would seem that I only have the single fry left -- the one that was moved into a separate tank. It hasn't grown quite as fast as the others were, but is growing nonetheless.

I think that if I ever really want to keep future fry alive, I'll need to dedicate a tank to just the Banggais that I can divide easily to separate the male from the female once he's carrying, and then the fry from the male once he releases them.

As for the cat... He's doing very well. Obviously, being confined to a small area pretty much drives him crazy, but it's keeping him from injurying himself further. He had his stitches out on Friday, and goes back in a month for x-rays to check how the bone is healing. At that time, they might remove a rod that was inserted to stabilize the bone while they installed the plate, as it's not needed and may be causing some inflamation. Fortunately, the follow-up visits / treatments are included in the original price of the surgery, so his accident isn't continuing to cost us more and more each time he has to go back to be checked.

Poor kitty...hope he recovers OK. I could see that happening here with the heavy hood for my 90.

Good luck with the next batch! Hope to have captive-bred banggai'
s someday. If I ever get this 125 SW tank going, I was thinking about dividing it in half to make a fry area.
