Hi
we have just got a biorb 60litre,with 2 gold fish (fantails)
the tanks been set up and is mature, but 3 days after puttin the fish is...the water is foaming..to a point that its commin out the top !
any help?

60L, that's 15 U.S. gallons, I think. Way too small for two goldfish IMO. When you say that the tank is mature, what exactly do you mean by that? Did you do a fishless cycle? If it is a new tank then I would assume that it's not "mature" unless you either fishless cycled with ammonia or something like that, or used Biospira, or used gravel or media from an established tank. If it is not cycled and you have two goldfish in it then you are probably having some sort of problem with your water quality such as ammonia or nitrite. I'm not positive that that is what is causing the foaming, but it is a place to look. Let us know what you find out and hopefully we can help you out.

Yeah i used pure ammonia to do a fishless cycle.
Had ammonia peak, then nitrite peak..now both of them have gone back to zero and am left with 20ppm nitrate which im going to control woth water changes.
I added the fish and i think thay are producin more ammonia, than i was adding and that is whats causing the foaming.
my ammonia is slightly over 0mg,but not much.
how many water changes should i do,till my filter catches up and ammonia zeros out ?

ps yeah i know goldfish grow big...at the moment thay are small, but will remove them when thay get larger.
thanks for the help

Good on the fishless cycling. I agree, I think that the goldfish are probably producing a lot of ammonia. The only thing that I can really recommend is lots of water changes. I'd start with one at least every other day. Also, IMO, you should get those goldies out of there as soon as you can because they will stunt very quickly. Good luck.

Does your Bi-Orb have an UGF? What are you using to treat the water? When I was setting up my small 2g tank ( with ugf) for my Betta, I noticed that using AquaSafe brand water treatment made my water foam a bit where the bubbles came to the surface. I changed to Prime and now the water is smooth as can be. It might be a long shot but it was what worked for me. Hope this helps...

kinda works on the basic of a under gravel filter, theres a bubble tube in the centre draws the water up and around the base of the tube are small rocks, which the filter forms on.
im doing a 50% water change eash day and the foamin has stoped now.
thanks 4 all the help ;)

ps..im buildin a pond this summer in the garden,so the goldies will be able to grow into monsters lol
