My bolivian rams spawned (2 pictures)

There you have it! You see, I'm sure I said that once they start....

Lol.

Hmm, I have some wigglers at the moment too - they may well be the same age as yours!! I was away for 3 days and came back to a pit full of wigglers so they're about 4 or 5 days old now. This is good, it was planned, so everything is prepared - baby brine shrimp hatchery on the go at the end of this week, no predators to worry about, daily WC's from here on out!

What are you going to be doing this time? Are you going to remove them to raise yourself, or are you going to try leaving them with mum and dad - can you remove any of the other fish to allow them an easier time?

You're obviously keeping them well, they spawn like this when they're happy (and at their prime lol.)

Blair.

Get a breeder basket to keep the fry in. In the breeder basket they will be safe from the other fish. They really only need their parents to protect them from other fish. They do not need them for anything else.
Net them or suck them up with a turkey baster and put them in the basket and feed them there. You may need a few breeder baskets if you have lots of babies. Once they get a larger, then you can let them free in the tank.

I think this was better off in the Cichlids folder, maybe a title change to emphasise the information about breeding them, just my opinion of course!

:)

This is exactly what I am thinking. Go pick one up at the LFS for under $5. BTW, you should enter that 1st picture into the POTM contest.

I bought a net breeder basket, and I'll buy a second one if I feel the first one is too crowded. I'll transfer them in the basket once they are free swimming, then I'll try to have them grow a little bit bigger before releasing them in the tank, like Puffernewbee said.

clay101 --> I don't know how to participate in the contest? It looks complicated. If you can help me, why not? ;)

your bolivian rams are beautiful would you suggest them to me? I have an empty 20 gallon long cycled ready for fish? How do you sex them or should i just buy a group of 5?

When they are young, they are harder to sex. They easiest way to sex them, when they are "adults", is that the male has red extensions to his tail and the female doesn't have them. In the second picture in my thread, you see the mother. Unfortunately, I don't have a male picture on hand right now, but I'm pretty sure Blairo1 has one! ;) You could try a group of 4 or 5. Anyway, mine didn't pair up until a few months actually. This is why I was so surprised. They are amazing, lively and beautiful little fish.
