My bolivian rams spawned (2 pictures)

clayt101: Ah, second picture. ;) I was telling myself that you probably meant that one (the first one isn't on focus). I'll see if I have a chance to enter, I'm pretty busy these days as I have to undergo surgery on tuesday. What is the prize?

How are the new fry doing? Update?

I had surgery yesterday, so I couldn't update earlier (I'm still in a lot of pain :(). The fry are going well in the basket, so far I only lost a few and the others are eating and swimming. Of the fry that was left with the parents (those I did not catch when I siphoned the fry), about 20, I only see a few left. The other fishes probably ate them. Out of curiosity, I took one fry from the basket and ''dropped" it near the parents. It was afraid of the parents, who were trying to catch it in the mouth in order to bring it back with their other fry. I don't know if he was eaten yet, but he was pretty good at hiding from the parents in the plants, so I guess the fry I'm keeping in the basket have an innate fear of all bigger fishes and will at least try to hide when I release them into the tank in about 3 weeks.

they are awesome, i love my bolivian rams. I have a question though, how can you tell if they are male/female? i just bought 5 and would love to know

Well... If they are young, it can be a difficult to sex them. The dimorphism is more visible as the fish get older. Then, the easiest way to differentiate them is to look at their tails (see the next picture):

Also, as I pointed out in the picture, the anal fin is more pointed in the male and more rounded in the female. This is visible pretty early on, actually I had a feeling from the beginning that I had 2 males and 2 females, and it turned out I was right. ;)

ty for the help, i appreciate it. at what size are they full grown? mine are currently around 1.5 -2 inches. i supposed that would be nearly full grown correct?

Mine are between 2.5 and 3 inches including the tail, but I read somewhere that they can grow bigger than that. Do you notice a difference in their anal fins yet, or in their tails extensions?
