My bolivian rams spawned (2 pictures)

Does the one in the back swim normally? Or does he/she scoot along the gravel? Also, is it the angle of the picture or is it's spine/tail that bent or curved?

When they have poorly formed swim bladders they look like that one in the back, but with the angle and bag it was hard to tell.

They look cute with their over short and dark dorsal rays don't they?!

welcome lil fry!..congrats happy parent..LOL

Well... If they are young, it can be a difficult to sex them. The dimorphism is more visible as the fish get older. Then, the easiest way to differentiate them is to look at their tails (see the next picture):

Also, as I pointed out in the picture, the anal fin is more pointed in the male and more rounded in the female. This is visible pretty early on, actually I had a feeling from the beginning that I had 2 males and 2 females, and it turned out I was right. ;)

Amazing!! I always wondered what my fish was. ( I have 1 female :) )thank you so much for this info!!
Now for the big question, are you selling any? its the best time to send when there small, they make the trip better. I live in Montana, would you be willing to sell me some?

Also notice how the males dorsal fin extends beyond the start of the tail and the female stops just short of that mark.

Yes, they are sooo cute! ;) About the one in the back... I went to look as him (because the pictures were taken in a glass, so it was possible that it was just the picture that made it look like its spine is bent), but it's really hard to tell as he is a lot smaller than the other one. He is getting bullied a lot, so I don't have much hope that he'll make it through. The bigger one looks very strong though, so maybe he'll live long enough to become big enough to be put amongst the community tank (they are still in the breeding basket). It's weird, it makes me feel good, like I have accomplished something. :)

Lol... I have only 2 babies, and they are tiny! So no, I won't be selling any fish. But I'm happy I could be of assistance in the sexing of your female! :)

wow, those are sick fish
i want those things so bad now, funny since yesterday i was possitive that i wanted apistos. Would those guys do well in a 20gt? its nicely planted and has a good peice of driftwood in it, that forms a cave. i have mollies and platies, but im going to get rid of a few hopefully since they are non stop breeding... Will rams eat the fry? thats population control right there... my tank is a couple of months cycled, around 2 i think. itll be another 3 till i get the fish. Congratz on the babies tho, so cute..

How are the little guys doing?

nice, my rams 'eggs would never make it to fry. they are bad parents
